Great rod..... I have the Viper 6 - 8kg and use it for Poppers and Softplastic for Kings and stuff. I really like this rod and would buy another in heart beat. The warranty i hear is awesome as well.

Hi mate. I have a few of these rods. They are high quality and they perform really well. I use the Magnum Butt for small to medium kings and a 4000 size Twin Power. This is an awesome setup, I love it.

The Viper wasnt released when I bought it but it would be a hard choice now for which one to get for kings between the Viper and Magnum Butt. It would come down to what your next biggest rod you own is. If its a big jump, then get the Viper. Dont be fooled tho, the Magnumn Butt is pretty powerful.

Hope this helps you mate.

Hi Roylo

I intend on fishishing 20+lb braid but I am in 12 - 15m of water usually.

I need to fish as light as possibles but want to hunt 80cm+ kings and big reds.

what do you reckon?

Cheers

Hey Wigg, what do you intend on using the rod for, bait fishing or soft plastics.

I had the same dilemma only a few days ago. I was choosing between the viper 6-8kg and a shimano king mack 8-12kg. In the end I chose the king mack, softish tip which is more suited to bait fishing but plenty of power in the lower section perfect for kings. If I was using plastics I would have picked the nitro, however the stiff graphite tip will mean some pulled hooks when bait fishing for reds. I love my king mack, closer rating would be 8-10kg, fuji sics as opposed to alconites on the nitro, 2 pce (detaches at the butt). Mine is matched to a 4500 baitrunner with 20lb nitlon. After speaking to a couple of rod builders, it was clear that the king mack was more so suited to bait fishing, while the nitro is better for flicking plastics. Same pricing too.

Dont get me wrong though, the nitro is an awesome rod, and has a great warranty deal.

Just my 2 cents, have a look at it if you get a chance

Definitly the heavier Viper then. If you were to latch on to a 1m plus fish in rough country tho I would be getting something even bigger.

Hi Le Pasha

Where did you get the King Mack?

I cant find it on the net.

I will mostly baitfishing with it.

I was thinking of the baitrunner but it is a bit heavy and bulky.

I was leaning towards a 4000 Twinpower

Roylo

I may have to have a look at the Magnum butt.

Cheers

Hey Wigg mate, if you are bait fishing with 20lb braid I strongly recommend the king mack, the magnum butt may be a little light for 20lb braid. I got mine from my local tackle shop but they are on all the main online tackle shops and I am sure one of the site sponsors would have one. They only came out this year I think so they are new, but i have only heard good things and I love mine. 4000 Twinpower is fine.

Check your PM's.

My head hurts

The more I look at rods and reels the more difficult it is to make a decision.

Originally I thought a baitrunner

But when I put them on a rod thery felt big and bulky.

Then I played with reels down to a 3000 size.

Now I am thinking an overhead.

I have 2 Abu 7000s and love em.

I like being able to put them in freespool with the ratchet on and peel line off if needed.

Now I am leaning toward a TLD 15 with a 7foot rod with a soft tip but with plenty of grunt.

Someone shoot me and put me out of my misery.
