We had the pleasure of spending the last few days aboard Ross Hunters vessel Broadbill up at Port Stephens.

We had intended to catch a few marlin ,but alas we missed out this year as the water temp was so hot the stripes and blacks went looking for cooler water :( .

On board was our new mate Jani from Finland, outdoordan, myself and Geoff.

We had been given the choice to have a jig for the afternoon and we jumped at the chance as the other 3 lads hadnt done this type of fishing before and as it was Dan's birthday we hoped he would score his first king.

Ross plonked us right on top of the kings in 85 fathoms :1yikes: and the jigs were sent on their way and down and down they went until Ross called out jig em hard boyzzzzzzzzzzzzzz !!!! and we were instantly rewarded with some great kingy action with Dan scoring a fish better than a metre on his first drop :yahoo:

Next was Jani and Geoff into the action with 75 to 85 cm models ,you bloody beauty .

It was a top session and the lads were very thankful to Emu and Ross for getting us into this top sportsfishinng action.

I now know why I hate jigging :074: plenty of bruises all round with the great fight of some very reasonable Kings.

I also scored my PB leatherjacket on a live slimie :tease: 50 cms :mad3: from 85 fathoms.

That smile on Dan's face is priceless!! And with good reason ... a crackin' hoodlum :yahoo:

A shame the beakies didn't put in an appearance for you, but the 'consolation' prize was terrific! Great photos of Geoff, Dan and Jani, all holding some bloody good fish.

Looks like Jani had a very satisfactory introduction to the fishing on offer here in Oz :yahoo: Congrats to all. Sounds like you had a tremendous time away

Cheers

Hodgey

My left arm is still a bit hammered  not to mention my cheeks :1prop:

After a few dozen jigs, dragging a meter king from 85 fathoms and working hard to get Geoff and Jani onto fish, is was half F-cked!

But great fun, and something im hanging to get into again.

Thanks for a great trip, it was great to meet you Jani, hope to catch up again somewhere around the world. Geoff and Lyn, thanks for the great company.

It's was great to spend some time with Stewy and Donna as always, they are two of the nicest, most generous people you could ever hope to meet, and i consider myself fortunate to call such good people my close friends.

... I almost forgot, Congrats on the 'Elvis Fish', thats a cracker jacket

Well done guys - great to see you got Jani onto some great fishing action in Aussie - I reckon this'll be the highlight of their trip!!

Congrats on your mega kingie, too, Dan & to Stewy & Geoff - well done on your catches too! Who'd think a leatherjacket of that size would be way down there!!!

85 fathoms towards Seal Rocks and look for the reef and bait schools.

Cheers Stewy
